Rare earth magnesium alloy

Rare earth magnesium alloys refer to magnesium alloys containing rare earth elements. Magnesium alloy is the lightest metal structural material in engineering applications, with advantages such as low density, high specific strength, high specific stiffness, high shock absorption, easy processing, and easy recycling. It has a huge application market in aerospace, military industry, electronic communication, transportation and other fields, especially in the context of scarce metal resources such as ductile iron, aluminum, and zinc. Magnesium's resource advantages, price advantages, and product advantages are fully utilized, Magnesium alloy has become a rapidly emerging engineering material.

Faced with the rapid development of international magnesium metal materials, as a major producer and exporter of magnesium resources, it is of great significance for China to conduct in-depth research and preliminary development work on magnesium alloys. However, the low strength and poor heat and corrosion resistance of ordinary magnesium alloys are still the bottleneck issues that restrict the large-scale application of magnesium alloys.

Most rare earth elements differ in atomic size radius from magnesium within the range of ± 15%, and have a high solid solubility in magnesium, exhibiting good solid solution strengthening and precipitation strengthening effects; It can effectively improve the microstructure and microstructure of the alloy, enhance the mechanical properties at room and high temperatures, and enhance the corrosion and heat resistance of the alloy; The atomic diffusion ability of  rare earth elements is poor, which has a significant effect on increasing the recrystallization temperature and slowing down the recrystallization process of magnesium alloys; Rare earth elements also have a good aging strengthening effect, which can precipitate very stable dispersed phase particles, thereby greatly improving the high-temperature strength and creep resistance of magnesium alloys. Therefore, a series of magnesium alloys containing rare earth elements have been developed in the field of magnesium alloys, making them possess high strength, heat resistance, corrosion resistance and other properties, which will effectively expand the application fields of magnesium alloys.
