Uses of cerium chloride: to make cerium and cerium salts, as a catalyst for olefin polymerization with aluminum and magnesium, as a rare earth trace element fertilizer, and also as a drug for treating diabetes and skin diseases.
It is used in petroleum catalyst, automobile exhaust catalyst, intermediate compound and other industries. Anhydrous cerium chloride is the main raw material for the preparation of rare earth metal cerium by electrolysis and metallothermic reduction [2]. It is obtained by dissolving rare-earth ammonium sulfate double salt with sodium hydroxide, oxidizing in air, and leaching with dilute hydrochloric acid. It is used in the field of corrosion inhibition of metals.
