What is Cerium Oxide?

Cerium oxide is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula CeO2, light yellow or yellowish brown auxiliary powder. Density 7.13g/cm3, melting point 2397°C, insoluble in water and alkali, slightly soluble in acid. At a temperature of 2000°C and a pressure of 15MPa, hydrogen can be used to reduce cerium oxide to obtain cerium oxide. When the temperature is free at 2000°C and the pressure is free at 5MPa, the cerium oxide is slightly yellowish reddish, and pink. It is used as polishing material, catalyst, catalyst carrier (auxiliary), ultraviolet absorber, fuel cell electrolyte, automobile exhaust absorber, electronic ceramics, etc.
Security Information
The salt of cerium oxide rare earth elements can reduce the content of prothrombin, inactivate it, inhibit the generation of thrombin, precipitate fibrinogen, and catalyze the decomposition of phosphoric acid compounds. The toxicity of rare earth elements weakens with the increase of atomic weight.
Inhalation of cerium-containing dust can cause occupational pneumoconiosis, and its chloride can damage the skin and irritate the mucous membranes of the eyes.
The maximum allowable concentration: cerium oxide 5 mg/m3, cerium hydroxide 5 mg/m3, gas masks should be worn when working, special protection should be carried out if there is radioactivity, and dust should be prevented from scattering.
nature
The pure product is white heavy powder or cubic crystal, and the impure product is light yellow or even pink to reddish brown (because it contains traces of lanthanum, praseodymium, etc.). Almost insoluble in water and acid. Relative density 7.3. Melting point: 1950°C, boiling point: 3500°C. Toxic, the median lethal dose (rat, oral) is about 1g/kg.
store
Keep airtight.
Quality Index
Divided by purity: low purity: purity not higher than 99%, high purity: 99.9%~99.99%, ultra-high purity above 99.999%
Divided by particle size: coarse powder, micron, submicron, nano
Safety instructions: The product is poisonous, tasteless, non-irritating, safe and reliable, stable in performance, and does not react with water and organic matter. It is a high-quality glass clarifying agent, decolorizing agent and chemical auxiliary agent.
use
oxidizing agent. Catalyst for organic reactions. Iron and steel analysis as rare earth metal standard sample. Redox titration analysis. Decolorized glass. Vitreous enamel opacifier. heat resistant alloys.
Used as an additive in the glass industry, as a grinding material for plate glass, and as an anti-ultraviolet effect in cosmetics. It has been expanded to the grinding of spectacle glass, optical lens, and picture tube, and plays the roles of decolorization, clarification, and absorption of ultraviolet rays and electron rays of the glass.
