Anhydrous gallium chloride, also known as gallium(III) chloride, is a chemical compound with the formula GaCl3. It is a white or yellowish, highly hygroscopic solid with a melting point of 358.5 °C and a boiling point of 1042 °C. It is used in a variety of applications, including the production of semiconductors, catalysts, and other chemicals. It is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis.
Anhydrous gallium chloride is highly reactive and easily absorbs moisture from the air, forming the hydrated compound GaCl3·6H2O. It is soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone, but insoluble in most organic solvents.
